Öland Spey Shrimp Var.

No comments yet

Few flies are more popular at the scandinavian coast than shrimp-flies, and none more than the salmon-pink coloured Pattegris (the Pig) by danish sea-trout expert Claus Eriksen. But originally - and before it turned salmon-pink it was invented by the skilled flytyer Morten Øland back in 2003, who came across some new feathers by Whiting Farms. The material was called Whiting Spey and was a substitute for the long heron-hackles. Morten saw the extreme movement of theese feathers, got an idea and created his Øland Spey Shrimp - a shrimp-fly in grey with but with amazing movement due to the long hacklefibres - a classic was invented. In this video we have teamed up with our good friend, flyfisher and professional flytyer Martin Votborg who ties his favorite version of the original - using grizzly feathers instead of grey as the original was tied with.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
