Keeper Kebari

No comments yet

This is a video of Chris Stewart's Keeper Kebari. https://www.tenkarabum.com/keeper-kebari.html

As Chris explains on his website this is a variation on the flies tied and used by Masami Sakakibara (Tenkara no Oni). Oni as he is called, is famous for fishing very large flies with a reverse hackle (sakasa) and very thin bodies made from peacock herl, synthetic peacock, antron yarn and possibly more. Chris explains that Masami tied flies up to a size 2 hook and well he could not bring himself to do that so he did size 6 for the Keeper.

The tying method used by Masami vs Chris is a bit different so I start with a quick show of how Masami ties his flies and then I move on to tie the Keeper the way Chris does.

I don't have size 2 hooks so I do the Oni tying on a size 6...because Chris went smaller vs Oni...I go down to a size 8 for the Keeper...but on the Tenkarabum site he shows and talks about the fly on size 6.

I have certainly fished the Keeper over the years in size 6 and trout do take it!

Here are some links to Masami tying flies.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
