Guadalupe River first time this year

No comments yet

Hey guys! So this is the first time fishing in a while. I had to wait to get my Texas fishing license, which I finally got last week and now I’m back fishing, but in a brand new area! Well ok, not brand new, I have fished the Guadalupe River before. However I am in the tail water now and not the free flowing section. The Guadalupe upe free flowing section dumps into canyon lake, and the tail water comes out of the dam at canyon lake. They do seem to fish slightly different, and the water temps are very different between the two. This river actually reminds me of many of the rivers in Colorado and New Mexico I fished, because of the fact that it has cool water and a stone bed.

Well this was not the most productive trip I’ve ever had, but I did have a blast, finally able to fish again after a long wait! Trying out my new rod from Risen fly Rods was also really fun, and I’m loving this rod! Once I got used to the moderate action of the rod, it started casting great! And also had a nice taper for fighting fish as well. Not overly stiff, so I had lots of play with this trout I caught! Yes that’s right, I said trout! In Texas! In the summer!!!!! I can’t believe there are still trout out there. Anyway... it was a great trip, please enjoy my video.

Since you got this far …

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
