The Calcacieu Pig Boat (Show Boat Version) is a fly designed by the late cajun fly designer Tom Nixon. Nixon was known for his bass flies and for his books on the subject. (http://amzn.to/2yE4rr4 Fly Tying and Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish)
The Calcasieu Pig Boat gets its name by combining the name of Tom's home ayers in Louisiana with the moniker giver to the German submarines during WWII. Like the subs, the Pig Boat has proven to be a deadly and stealthy adversary to the warm water targets.
The fly was designed to act like the popular Hawaiian Wiggler lure which was doing quite well with bass anglers.
The original fly was tied without the tail section and in all black. Tom was not a purist and was know to add a pork rind on the hook.
Other versions include the Showboat (rubber legs tail), Serpent (saddle hackle), rabbit and marabou.
