Dear all,
I haven't been posting for a while.
I am going to fish Rügen estuaries for pike in October. I have read that there are also flounders in shallow water, that are fished for by "gardenhackle".
As a "minor" fishing I would like to try for them. General thinking rigt now is a clouser on a floating line with a long leader.
Anyone any thoughts on this?
TTL Florian
I would try a small wooly worm, probably no bigger than size 10, in the same colour as the local rag or harbour worms. Or a small shrimp pattern with plenty of flash.
All the best

Hi Mike,
thanks for the ideas from the southern hemisphere. I will try them. I am fishing with my daughter, so three or four fish should be sufficient for dinner. I am just curious whether it is going to work on flatfish.
You guys must get ready for trout season.

Hello Florian, how did you get on with the flounder?
We are indeed in to a new trout season, but I have yet to wet a line, just too busy. I am heading down to the Tongariro area in early November for a few days fishing so have my my fingers crossed for some good weather.
All the best.

Hi Mike,
iot is not customary or me to leave questions like that unanswered. But on return rom that trip I got seriously ill. There were also some very fundamental changes in my life.
Since July I am "back in the world". My daughter still likes to fish. :D
I did not pick up a flounder in the Baltic on that trip. Keeping up the tradition we are going again this October.
I will take two fly rods with me, besisdes some conventional tackle, a 6 weight to give the flounders a second chance and a 9 weight with a fast sinking tip or the pike. The waters there are known for large northern and that time of the year tey are holding deep. I caught a 75 cm fish on spinning tackle. The same day a kid caught a meter pike, they are not considered to be large there,

Hi Mike,
before Rügen there are two outings on trout. I figured out that next Sa/Sun is doable and the 15th and early morning on the 16th is doable. After that trout season closes.
Is yours already open? I am not sure about the seasons.
Anyhow this upcoming WE I have good company, but no fishing.
Best regards

Hi hairs ear, the season down here is October 1st to July 30th for most water in the North Island, though some waters remain open all year and some spawning areas are closed until December 1st.
Hope you get some fishing in soon.
All the best.
