The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

This would make a good additon to my brook trout flies that imitate sand eels and capelin

Thanks for the fly

Pete:
Great variation on the Surf Candy. Now I know what to do with those mylar scale stick ons I brought.

The temperature of the epoxy and the mixing surface will affect clarity and cure times...
A space heater was a bit too close and my glass mixing slab was warm to the touch...
'Resulting in an abrupt cure, bubbles, and deminished clarity...
Colour transmission was less precise and somewhat muddled...
Definitely fishable but not as crisp and defined as it could be...
The Striped Focus Group will have the final approval...or NOT !?

My epoxy daze are numbered!

Pete,

As always: amazing! Those are nice shrimps, and definitely something I'd put on my tippet. Compared to our local shrimp (the natural) they seem just a bit large, but on the other hand people here are using flies like the Pink Pig, which seems to be too large for my taste too. But it catches fish. No need to argue about that - in spite of its color and size.

Martin

There are "magic systems" out there that employ liquid acrylics that are "cured" with the application of narrow band Blue Spectrum light or UV light...[depending on the system chemistry]...
I prefer the non-UV Tuffleye Blue Light specific system for personal reasons... UV bouncing around is a vision related concern... The dental industry runs with Non-UV... to each their own...
but I digress...
Regardless... The results are entertaining, stimulating, and quite encouraging...
Add a little at a time... built the fly and cure as you go... consider it "fly spot welding"...
No odor... No turning wheel... Epoxy be gone!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
