Darren's Biography

Darren has been fishing from the age of 4 all across Canada. He started on the east coast in Prince Edward Island before moving west to the banks of the Bow River in Calgary Alberta. He now resides just outside of Toronto, fishing the Great Lakes and the fine tributary waters around the GTA. Darren started tying flies as a way pass time after a liver transplant in 2002 and was instantly addicted to tying. The addiction really hit when he was introduced to the classic streamers of Lew Oatman, Carrie Stevens and Herb Welch. He has been tying flies commercially for the past few years and ties streamers for pleasure. Darren has written a number of fly tying articles for publications both on the web and in print, including his regular fly tying column, "Hooks and Half Hitches", in Fly Fusion magazine.

Darren, Thank you for the opportunity to share my streamers for such a worthy project. It has been fun. I look forward to my daily emails after the New Year.

Good luck with the project Darren.

We have some great trout down here in NZ if you are ever contemplating fishing down under.

The Black Cat is my kind of streamer, that will be great for trolling this spring. I will tying a few the coming weekend at a show where I will be tying. Great job with the project.

It is a delight to see so many of your streamers so well tied. Please continue to post your wonderful streamer. The dusty Streamer is another one on the top of my list to before spring fishing.

Darren, just received my copy of Streamers 365 - complete series. It is beautiful and exceeded my expectations. Thanks for your efforts and dedication. Truly a labor of love! I will treasure it and pass it on for future generations. Looking forward to even more great ties and creations.

Gray

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
