Flat Wing Streamer for Fresh Water

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

I've fished the Nine-Three and the Needebah, but never really got excited about traditional flat wings. I read Ken Abrames book several years ago and immediately got hyped on his Razzle Dazzle style flatwing deceivers. I played with the style for a few seasons and really found them to be excellent for late summer and autumn bass and hybrid wiper fishing. Anywhere there's a population of gizzard shad that get to 5" long, this fly has worked.

Do you fish flatwings? I'm particularly interested in feedback from anyone who's used these for big-water trout like Great Lakes browns. I've found this is a great largemouth fly, too.

I've posted full fly tying video through iTunes if you want to download them.

My birding and fishing friends use to drive their jeeps to that light house before the big storm that cut up The Moy. Have you ever heard of The Mooncussers?

Mooncussers...shiftless near-do-well shore bound pirate wanna'beeez who would meacon ships aground and pillage the booty...
(not to be confused with MoonBatz TedKennedy/JohnKerry)

Here's another eye-in-the-sky glimpse of the neighborhood...
and a stripes seasonal visitor...PhlatWing to go...

Beautiful picture of Monomoy. I love how much that island changes every year. Just before I moved from Mass. to NOVA I painted the outside of Charlie Fuller's house on Morris Island. That is the view from his house. Probably the nicest view on the Cape.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
